Sawsan Saif
I love you Iraq
When
I have grown wings to depart
While crossed
My memory those streets
Banks of river
Shades of palm
Whilst
Grass sprout
In between the fingers
And winter
And wounds
Stain that late afternoon
The beloved ones sit in the evening
Around heater fire
And I see in between eyes
Orbits go by
And fleets of years
And see
That I flying and soaring like a dove
Over a land of light and Atheer
I had not known one day
That I'll be
Like the farseer
And see my home from a distance
And I see an apparition of smile
A homeland clinging to my soul
And at nights I do not sleep
What a pitch dark night
Sunk in its darkness
And me alone in exile
I intended not to depart
They took me
They lost me
A homeland I keep up loving
And to doomsday
However I'll soar high
They barely know me
Bitter time
And a pang in my heart
And tears of agony
Have not washed my eyes
Ah, if but I told them
That, there are lilies in my heart for Iraq
That, there are lilies in my heart for Iraq
