Abbas Jijan
You the eye and closer than the eyelid you
You the father who take in his hands his son and daughter
And in the oneness of Allah the whole people you Shiites and Sunnis
Who said I forget you does the moon forget its timing
If would heart beating deny its pulse
But your passion so an obvious love
All people's love are secrets and unspoken
You became Saturday in a Jew trust
Have you ever seen a Jew break off his Saturday?
You are the knight who outrun wind blowing
I think not other horses outrun him
From your soil make the kohl of eyes
And medicine whose illness chronic
And from your mud we henna the brides' eyelids
And with every joyous finger snap
Your soil smell revive the soul
Cardamom saffron amber in each smell
And like your heel soil we never found similar soil
Prayer wash performed from his soil mud
Al Murtada Al Karrar could sleep therein
Abu Al Hasanain with whom all people seek protection in omen and fortune
And therein sleep at Karbala Al Hussein
Who did not sold his belt nor surrendered his neck
And Al Abbas standard remained with you
To whom walked…the slope of the Euphrates and kissed him from the lip
Since I left you when dissension expelled me
It looked as if I forgot my heart which with you I entrusted
Transplanted on the ridge of the good Tigris
And with the mud of shores I attached
And its roots extended on the very bottom there
And from the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates I baptized it
And when he could move about between people
I took it with me to Al Kadhim to visit the window
And true now I have become from the Netherlands
Dutch nationality and with jellied hair
And thus I acclimatized with the West for a time
And became odd like them and the salt detested
And true I became like them talking their language
And Arabic tongue in foreign language I toned
But I do not know what happens to me when your birds pass by
I feel you like July warmth and heat
The world forgot the 11th of September
You became his headline story
Some say we have to occupy it and drain the oil
Make up for what lost and steal his blessing
Other say besiege must endure
Some say we must disarm
Others say a guilt his children died of starvation
And some say he deserved he had not thanked God nor maintained his grace
How beautiful you why jealous the countries of you
They have not the glory you honored with
You, the first homeland Adam placed his foot on, and said o God you are part of the heaven
You the first home country where Abraham prophet invoked God to protect with His Mercy and Glory
You the first homeland berth Noah Ark landed
And you the first homeland in which Job prophet kneeled down his riding camel
And you're the first homeland who taught the world the alphabet and write history
And you're the first homeland enacted the first legislation
You're the first homeland like highland the good morning sun thereat raises
You're the first homeland not like other homelands
Glory to God how He portrayed him
The picture of Iraq only fitting to us
And we're fitting to him but in high time
Those people of infidelity what they wanted from you
If anyone aware thereof they would not have come to you
Your pocket had not been yours when Arabs used to call on you
Dear fortunes here and there squandered
But when you fell down nobody came to help and your bleeding as wax tears pouring out
You remained alone bleeding in the field while your children wailing over you
While you whine like no any other butchered before
You disguised your wound as though indifferent
Lest gloaters might see you lying down and rejoice at that
How your stubborn nature greater than the Ah (if)
And greater than their faithlessness how lucky you're
How many invaders passed by and moved away
With years passing by while he donned in disgrace
They ended up in dump site cursed by history
Our home soil resist relentlessly the invader's and occupant's foot
Our homeland soil very precious and dearer than ourselves
