Parliamentary elections and the conscience of voter

Political editor

After the passage of nearly seven years since the occupation, and with the approach of parliamentary elections scheduled to run on the 7th of March, 2010, all candidate blocs and parties registered with the High Independent Commissariat for Elections are preparing themselves to compete in the electoral stage by developing logos, ads, media propaganda and promoting their projected plans in case of winning. However, each party, political entity or coalition is different in the way propaganda is communicated, for some allocate certain amounts of money for distribution among the poor, needy and the displaced during the election period only and afterwards nothing is given, while others provide humanitarian help such as the distribution of blankets and garments to certain poor category of Iraqi community, and a third do its best to invite the chiefs of clans, elders and notables to large banquets and feasts with giving away some attractive gifts to draw and win them over to give their votes and their followers' in the elections. Whereas, some make promises to some dreamers of power chairs or advanced positions to give them a role in the coming government, and others may go out by themselves to poverty-stricken slums and neglected neighborhoods, visit the needy families and assume the role of companions in inspecting and showing interest in people with generous distribution of funds, the generosity that shows up only during the period of elections especially the parliamentary thereof…

All these charitable deeds that are carried out at this time in particular are of known intentions though this would not fool the Iraqi citizen, even the naïve one, because the Iraqis are intelligent and conscientious and can sort who is worth to become the next stage man, the sincere man who does not make promises haphazardly and does not give away money during the elections period only, the one who does not disguised under religion, but who can hold under his wings all spectra of Iraqi community no matter how different in terms of nationality and ideology, the man who  will lead Iraq to safety and unite the ranks of his children, save Iraq from the abyss, heal its wounds he has been burdened with in all the past years.
